Pages To Read as a Communication Tool

The Pages To Read list on the Dashboard is a useful way to draw attention to your recently Published Pages.  However, over time this list might become cluttered with older items that have yet to be read, which could cause your more recently Published items to be ignored.  To better utilize Pages To Read as a communication tool, you might consider refreshing this listing for all users.


At the time of a Publish action, an Administrator is able to select Viewers that are required to view the Page.  This “required” Viewer selection during Publishing triggers the Page to be listed in the Pages To Read Dashboard list.  In most cases, your Viewers are one or more Groups that have been assigned to the Page. Take a moment to consider how your Viewers are listed on the Page, and whether the Groups and Users are the target audience for this Page.  Perhaps you could better organize your Viewer Groups into more targeted subGroups, which would be useful when you want to notify specific users during your Publish action.  This will enable your selection on the Publish window to be more specific, and greatly increase the chances that the Pages To Read listing will be relevant to the logged-on user. 

Pages To Read can be refreshed by Unpublishing a Page, which removes it from the Dashboard of required Viewers who haven’t yet viewed the Page.  Therefore, Unpublishing all Pages with open Pages To Read notifications will cause this Dashboard list to be refreshed and empty for all users.  Of course, you may not know which Pages are still listed in Pages To Read, or you may have a large number of Pages that would require significant time to Unpublish/Republish.  Consider using our policyIQ Custom Support Services to assist, as we’re able to perform large scale updates programmatically to help save you time and effort.
